“Local is Lekker” is the South African a way of saying “things from home are usually the best”. This phrase can apply to anything from sport, to food or culture and is a common phrase in South Africa.

We decided to use that as our brand name as it’s a philosophy we fundamentally believe in. "Local is Lekker!" with LILCO.

We are based in Hout Bay, Cape Town and locally design and produce Pop-Art with a distinctly South African flavour.

We sell via our website and at various local markets and pop-ups. We are not available at gift shops in order to keep prices affordable for locals. Lekker neh?

Our three very distinct ranges make perfect budget-friendly gifts and home décor.

Each range features 6 unique designs. We have 18 designs in total across the three ranges.

 “ICONS” RANGE
Pop-Art but with classic South African icons fused with classic Pop-Art design and popular SA slang words. Our designs include King Proteas, Nguni Cows, Zebras, Minibus Taxis and VW Kombis for a real taste of South Africa. They make great gifts for overseas friends, ex-pats and for people keen to capture a piece of SA’s unique vibe.

 “CLASSIC” RANGE
This Pop-Art range features popular South African slang words fused with traditional Pop-Art design. These are classic 1950's Pop-Art designs.

“KASI” RANGE
This range is straight out of Soweto, Langa, & Mamelodi. Our 6 designs feature common township slang words and draw design inspiration from a range of black consciousness icons, activists and artists - from Steve Biko (Haikona!), Martin Luther King Jr (Wena!), Angela Davis (Ngca!), Peter Jackson (Shap!) and Malick Sidibé (Eish!).

A percentage of our profits from the “Haikona!” design will be donated to the Steve Biko Foundation.

LILCO’s products are manufactured locally using South African materials and labour. Our manufacturing partners are family-owned businesses who keep the SA economy going.
